Proud of our sustainability credentials
Slaney Farms operates with a core set of values around environmental responsibility and sustainability, working closely with business partners, government agencies and others to support sustainable food production.
As growers, we are committed to protecting and preserving our resources for future generations. By implementing initiatives such as soil sustainability, we manage the eco-system through crop rotational and minimum tillage practices, with technology being employed to ensure optimal (and minimal) fertilizer usage.
Slaney Farms manages over 1,000 acres of land each year with potatoes and cereals grown on a rotation system. All the land used for growing and harvesting our potatoes is within a 10-mile radius for our processing facility in Tomnalossett. Our growing season starts early-spring with harvesting of each variety as it matures from mid-summer to mid-October. For more see our behind the scenes information here.
All of our activities are recorded on a gatekeeper system which allows us to monitor and log all the inputs and activity on each and every acre of land – a milestone for the company in sustainability and traceabilty terms.
Slaney Farms is a member of Bord Bia’s Quality Assurance programme, the Department of Agriculture’s Green Low-Carbon Agri-Environment Scheme (GLAS) and the voluntary environmental performance system EcoCert.
