Steadfast commitment to Quality
Quality is the bedrock of our business at Slaney Farms. Consumers today are concerned about food safety and traceability within the food chain with quality of critical concern in food production. Consumers and retailers alike expect produce to be grown, handled, packaged and transported to the highest standards, in a clean and sustainable manner.
As one of Ireland’s leading growers and suppliers of fresh potato produce, we nurture all our potato varieties in soil spanning several locations around Enniscorthy/Clonroche – which boost some of the best soils in Ireland. To maintain our strict quality standards the deep free-draining loamy soils are tested and where necessary nutrients are added to ensure optimal flavour and quality excellence. Using only interventions approved by the Irish Department of Agriculture, and minimal rates where possible, we strive towards eco-friendly production.
Working with nature, in the heart of potato country, we follow the growing cycle; sowing, growing and harvesting at optimal times to achieve the finest produce. Packing in our strategically located facility in Enniscorthy our main crop potatoes, once harvested, are dried using special drying technology. Then stored in quality controlled refrigerated purpose-built stores with the temperature maintained at an even 3°, the potatoes happily sit in their dark cool home until they are required for packing and dispatch countrywide. We currently have capacity for over 5000 tonnes, ensuring consistency in quality and supply all year round.

Green, Low-Carbon, Agri-Environment Scheme (GLAS)
GLAS looks to tie in with the green vision for Irish agriculture. The scheme is green as it preserves Ireland’s traditional hay meadows and low input pastures; low-carbon as it retains the carbon stocks in soil through margin habitat preservation and practices such as minimum tillage; and agri-environment as it promotes agricultural actions which enhance the rural environment.
Slaney Farms are committed to the aims of GLAS to promote biodiversity, protect water quality, and to help combat climate change.
Research & Development – the Salad Potato Project. This working group was set up in partnership by Teagasc, Bord Bia and the IFA to investigate and grow the market for indigenously salad potatoes, increase the tonnage grown in Ireland, increase the number of growers, improve growers knowledge and to leave a legacy of information.
Slaney Farms are proud to have been chosen as the pilot trials farm and are delighted at being able to
assist the working group with achieving the goals of the Salad Potato Project in Ireland.
The EU co-funded potato promotion programme ‘Potatoes – More Than a Bit on the Side’ commenced in late 2015 to coincide with National Potato Day. The programme promotes fresh potatoes in Ireland.
